Retouchers no longer have to work pixel by pixel to fill in missing backgrounds. The new Photoshop makes use of an algorithm, developed with Princeton University and the University of Washington, that takes thousands of color patches from the image to find similar flecks to make a new sky or fill in the background when you trim out an obscuring branch or even a stranger who wandered into the shot.
